Founded on C. Peter Cole’s dream, TCTW began its journey in 1967, guiding young people to discover themselves through the awe-inspiring wonders of the West. Sassy Smyth, the current director, has led the organization to new heights, inviting participants from across the globe with a focus on Virginia and the Carolinas.
TCTW’s mission is built on six significant principles:

- Realize your unique gifts.
- Use these gifts to make your world a better place.
- Give thanks to our maker.
It’s these principles they hope all participants will embrace and practice throughout their lives.
TCTW offers two exciting trips starting and ending this summer at McClure Park in Statesville, NC.
But there’s a personal touch to this story as well. Our very own Oliver Connor participated in TCTW’s tour in the summer of 2000 when he was just 15. This experience was pivotal in his life, shaping his character and paving the way for his future achievements. Oliver shares, “The lessons and experiences I gained with TCTW have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. I owe so much to this amazing organization.”
